Specifications

Digicon develops specifications for all facets of construction, from commercially available master specifications, to customized office master specifications, to proprietary master specifications for product manufacturers.

Commercial Master Specifications

Digicon develops and publishes five (5) varieties of master specifications collectively referred to as "SpecSUITE", which are sold through our marketing web site Spex.ca.

BrandedSPEC Proprietary Specifications and complementary Product Descriptions

Specifications that offer specifiers the possibility to properly specify a specific manufactured product, using a template which is written to the same writing standards as other Digicon specifications, and formatted to be compatible with other published Spex.ca specifications.

  • Specifiers: BrandedSPEC gives specifiers free access to proprietary specifications that they can insert into their project specifications, and enjoy full compatibility with their specification editing software.
  • Manufacturers: BrandedSPEC enables manufacturers to encourage specifiers to use their products, while assisting them to write a cohesive and proper specification and reduce the possibility of specifying conflicting or inappropriate product requirements.

BrandedSPEC sections are made available for free at the Spex.ca website. Source information on BrandedSPEC and Product Descriptions is available for viewing.

Software

SpecMacros

SpecMacros are specification editing software, designed to function with all of Digicon's master specification texts, using a common word processor format.   SpecMacros are add-ins to Corel WordPerfect (version 9 or higher) and Microsoft Word (version 2000 or higher).

Specnique

Specnique is a proprietary software specifically designed to edit any specifications published by Spex.ca.  The text is edited similarly to a word processor although information is stored in a database format. These two factors provide users with ease of formatting, better global control of formatting, easier option selection, and the ability to run reliable project management style reports which are difficult or impossible to create using a word processor.

Publications

In addition to specifications, Digicon regularly authors construction technology publications available on Spex.ca;  some at no cost.

Metric Guide for Specifiers link to publications is a Guide for weights and measure units in specifications and addresses basic metric conversion parameters with a specific focus on construction specifications and indirectly, drawings.

The Glossary of "Front End" Terms is a manuscript which identifies, coordinates, and categorizes a wide representation of contract-like terms with references sited regarding the industry sources plus the knowledge gleaned from many years of practice by the author.

Product Representative Handbook is the first published text specifically developed to act as a learning tool for manufacturer’ s representatives. The text focuses on the North American commercial construction industry, the key players, the project construction process, the manufacturers representative's role, and key marketing approaches.

ProductFormat provides guidelines for the development of manufacturer's product descriptions that complement the industry accepted format documents developed by CSC/CSI:  MasterFormat and SectionFormat.
